International 16 Days of Action Event Wateford City Library
The Local Area Network on Violence against Women will host an event in the Wateford City Library to mark the International 16 Days of Action at 11am on thursday 8th December.
Maimuna Kanyamala, who will launch the Booklet, is the Executive Director and a founder of Kivulini Women’s Rights Organisation, which works to mobilise local communities to prevent violence against women and girls. Maimuna was awarded the 2011 Tanzanian Woman of Courage Award by the US embassy in Tanzania in April this year and is currently visiting the Women's Centre in Waterford, with three other women activists from Tranzania as part of an exchange organised by the feminist globle development organisation Banulacht based in Dublin. Tramore Gospel Singers will perform some appropriate songs during the event. Waterford Local Area Network (LAN) who organised this event is a network made up of statutory, community and voluntary groups that provide services to women who are or have experienced domestic violence or abuse. The LAN aims to raise awareness of the issue of violence against women, improve communication between service providers and to help women access those services.
This is the 18th Year of this campaign that runs annually from 25th November to the 10th December
Please join us at this event to show your support for women who are or have experienced domestic abuse or violence
